In 2011 retired to S of France. Run a B&B with my wife, Shelagh, and do occasional work as an IELTS examiner for British Council, Marseille.
Before that I coached executives in Beijing in Business English, working at CA, Accenture, Boston Consulting Group among others.

2003-2006: Senior Foreign English Teacher, Beijing No 80 Middle School, Beijing China. Learned Mandarin at BLCU.

1999-2003: Undergraduate Computer Science Student at DePaul University, Chicago

1996-1999: Consultant, Activair Airfreight, Hong Kong (Coordinated import and export of printed and publishing materials in Hong Kong and China).

1993-1996: Managing Director, MichaelTimperleyMarketing (Publishers' Representation Agency based in London, representing publishers in Central and Eastern Europe).

1989-1993: European Sales Manager, Random House Inc

1976-1980: Managing Director, Omnibooks SA, Brussels (Distributor and Representative of US and UK publishers in Belgium, Netherlands, France and Germany).

1972-1989: Publishers' Sales Representative (Pandemic Ltd, London/Brussels. Handled the sales for 25 US publishers in Western Europe. Based in Brussels, Belgium 1972-1983). 
It was here that I discovered the beauty of a company car and a large expense account.

I’ve travelled to 60 countries and lived 12 years in Brussels, 4 years in Hong Kong, 4 years in Chicago, followed by 8 years in Beijing, China.

Educated at Queen Mary, UL, BA in German and French, and at
St Nicholas Grammar School, Northwood, Middx.
